Acknowledge Success

Acknowledge success

Feedback is critical to identify the transformation programme's actual status and confirm “are we there yet”. If you’re not there, take the required remedial actions, but if you’ve "made it" then loudly and publicly recognise and celebrate the accomplishments.

You will have started doing Pulse Check surveys as part of the Enable phase of the X4MIS methodology and as part of the Embedding Activities to gather feedback regarding the adoption of the change(s) and the involvement of the stakeholders.

To determine if you’re there yet, try the following:

  1. Have a clear strategy to recognise and celebrate the wins and define what proof of achievement looks like, especially the early accomplishments.  You will have defined this strategy in the Change Implementation Plan and Quick Wins.
  2. Aligning business Vision and Values and team goals to the change strategy. Reviewing these at team meetings or status reviews will also provide opportunities to "celebrate wins" and give credit to those teams or individuals embracing change.
  3. Identifying and encouraging planned or unplanned behaviours that directly benefit the change strategy.  Rewarding the behaviours will drive the adoption of the new way of working.
  4. Keep reinforcement and rewards simple and focus on the most important behaviours that lead to success.
  5. Use rewards that match an action. For example, changing a job easier will encourage repetition and adoption.
  6. Seek social incentives like public acclimation, free time, recognition, and increased responsibility over financial rewards.
  7. Ensure the change management team are aware of the required behavioural changes, including the antecedents, reward and consequences options.
  8. Create incentives tied to transformation outcomes because of the change initiative.  Adoption will happen quickly when positive rewards for the desired behaviour are balanced with negative consequences for failing to change.
